Struggling to Chew This Thanksgiving?
When it comes to Thanksgiving, what’s your favorite food? Is it the turkey, which is simply oven-roasted to perfection? Is it the mashed potatoes; you know the ones made from real potatoes and not a box? Maybe it’s one of the other side dished. Like the handmade stuffing, the cranberry dressing, or the macaroni and cheese.
Do you spend hours putting together the perfect meal? Everyone in the family counts on you to get everything just right. Or maybe you’re just the family member known for eating the most; like Joey on that episode of “Friends” where attempts to eat an entire turkey. Food is such an important part of one of countries oldest and most cherished holidays.
But what do you do when you can no longer eat the foods that you love? Maybe it’s a toothache that’s got you down. It’s starts as some minor pain but it builds until it’s simply throbbing. Sometimes the pain fades away for a moment, but often the pain comes back with a vengeance. You don’t really know what to do about it.
At All Smiles Jacksonville in Jacksonville, TX, we can detect and alleviate the source of your dental pain. One of our favorite parts of the job is stopping a toothache dead in its tracks. Often people come to us because they are having a hard-time chewing; most often they are suffering from a decayed or damaged tooth. Luckily for them, we offer restorative dentistry procedures. If your tooth is severely-damaged, we can actually create a dental crown to repair it in our office!
In today’s post of our dental health blog, we’re going to tell you a little bit more about dental crowns. Specifically, CEREC Same-Day Crowns which we offer in our comfortable and modern office in Jacksonville, TX. A dental crown is used for many reasons; but most commonly they are used to restore the form and function of an affected tooth.
Bacteria in your mouth leads to tooth decay; this is a natural occurrence no matter how well you brush and floss. Bacteria can slowly erode the enamel of your teeth, leaving a hole called a cavity. We can treat many cavities with a tooth-colored filling. But sometimes a tooth is simply too decayed to be rebuilt with a filling. When this happens, we turn to a dental crown.
A dental crown encases the entirety of a tooth, acting almost like a cap for the tooth. We use dental crowns after we’ve cleaned out decay or infection from a tooth. They are also used to anchor dental bridges, cover dental implants, or even to hold together a broken tooth. At most dental clinics, it takes several appointments to have a crown placed. This is because they outsource the production of the crown to a third-party, usually a dental lab. At All Smiles Jacksonville, we offer crowns that are made domestically in our office.
Our office features CEREC technology; we begin by taking an impression of your tooth. This impression is used by the CEREC computer and 3D printer to make a crown for you. Each crown is custom-made to fit a patient’s tooth to perfection. The CEREC machine can quickly make the crown, which means we can actually install it in your mouth during your initial dental crown appointment. That means you to have to juggle multiple appointments, or worry about an ill-fitting temporary crown falling out of your mouth.
CEREC Crowns are incredibly effective; in fact several studies have shown them to be as durable as a traditional crown. CEREC crowns last for years, plus they look great. A CEREC crown is specially produced to match the natural appearance, shade, and color of your tooth. They look exceptional; just like your god-given teeth! They also save you time and money by preventing the need for multiple appointments to our office.
We can also use the CEREC machine to create inlays and onlays. Inlays and onlays are like the middle ground between a filling and a dental crown. They are used to restore the decayed areas of a tooth, but do not cover the entire tooth. Your dentist will let you know which selection is right for your unique situation.
